We can be very impatient people. And most times we want to have everything right now – no waiting. Our present instantaneous society has ingrained within us an immediacy about everything that we do and think. And if we don’t get what we believe that we need at that moment we can become very anxious, even to the point of questioning the Lord and wondering why He is not acting upon our behalf!
In our walk as His followers upon this earth, we have the ability to ‘wear out our shoes’ thus creating ‘holes in our souls’. When we focus on the ‘means’ (the material stuff of daily life) and forget the ‘ends’ (the stuff of eternity) we can get knocked off the narrow path and begin to mingle among the ways of the wide path – the path does not lead to abundant life. As we straddle the wide path we can wear out our shoes and create holes in our souls – areas where we no longer have complete trust and faith in our Lord thus creating anxiousness and anxiety in our lives.
I am here to tell you that our Lord does not want His children to wear out their shoes and have holes in their souls. He wants all us to have ‘new shoes’ – a life abundant in faith and trust in Him. Where our level of faith and trust in Him is not reliant upon how our daily wants are met, on how quickly we are gratified with the things we deem to be necessary, but resting and trusting in Him completely in and for ALL things.
Are your shoes worn out? Ask your Father for new ones and then rest in Him!
Be anxious for nothing (Phil 4:6)
I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. (John 10:10)
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. (Eph 3:20-21)
